A man died on Tuesday evening in an accident on the ring road in Brugge (Bruges), the Brugge section of the Office of the Public Prosecutor (OPP) of East Flanders indicated on Wednesday.
The accident occurred at about 8.30 p.m., when the driver lost control of his vehicle around Fort Lapin. The car then smashed into other vehicles before coming to a halt.

The emergency services quickly intervened but the man died on the spot. One passenger was taken to hospital.

The OPP did not immediately divulge the identity of the victim.

No expert was sent immediately to the scene of the accident, which was seen by many witnesses.
