Queen Paola has been told to take a period of “total rest” after undergoing a medical exam on Tuesday evening, the Palace announced on Wednesday.
“As a consequence, all activities and trips planned by Their Majesties King Albert and Queen Paola have been cancelled”, the Palace press release says. It does not say how long Queen Paola’s rest period will last.

King Albert and Queen Paola were expected to go to Venice at the beginning of September, for the 56th International “La Biennale di Venezia” Visual Arts Exhibition. The couple was expected to visit the Belgian pavilion. Queen Paola is wife to King Albert and mother to King Philippe. She is now 77 years old.
