Prince Amedeo back in line for succession

Prince Amedeo is back in the line for succession to the Belgian throne following Tuesday’s royal decree, reveal several media.
Princess Astrid’s elder son married Lili Rosbosch in Rome on July 5th, 2014. “Formally, the wedding took place without prior consent from King Philippe, which led to the application of Article 85 of the Constitution and to Amedeo being ‘deprived of his claim to the throne’. But the king decided to consent retroactively on Tuesday.

A royal decree of confirmation signed by Prime Minister Charles Michel (MR) and Minister of Justice Koen Geens CD&V), was published in the Moniteur belge (Belgian official journal) on Tuesday,” explains daily La Libre Belgique. Amedeo is once again sixth in line to the throne.

The decree also states that only “princes and princesses, children and grandchildren, who are direct descendants of the heir” will now be called “princes or princesses of Belgium,” adds daily Le Soir.

Some exceptions are allowed: princes and princesses already known as “of Belgium” will keep their titles. “We hope current princes and princesses of Belgium will keep this privilege,” adds the royal decree. “We wish to henceforth limit the number of collateral relations being called princes and princesses of Belgium,” it explains.
