Despite multiple campaigns and "Bob" actions, alcohol remains a problem endangering lives in traffic.
Last year, an average of 135 drivers under influence were intercepted every day, according to data from Minister of Internal Affairs, Zaken Jambon (N-VA), published in Het Nieuwsblad, De Standaard and Gazet van Antwerpen on Monday. Drunk driving causes 4,000 accidents each year.

The most effective way to deter drinkers is to increase the risk of being caught, experts agree. According to a Vias Institue survey, only 10% of drivers believe that the risk of being intercepted is high, very high, or extremely high. Whereas, for good management of the struggle against drunk driving, this proportion should be 90%.
