With the approach of end-of-the-year festivities, the Walloon Agency for Road Safety (AWSR) reminded Monday that there exists a “BackSafe” taxi voucher in ten of the region’s cities: Spa, Waterloo, Louvain-la-Neuve, Liege, Charleroi, Mons, Verviers, Namur, Tournai and Arlon.
Young people aged between 16 and 30 may use these taxi vouchers from 11 pm to 6 am, Thursday to Sunday.

The principle is a check worth 5€ which is sold for 2,50€ only. Several checks can be used to pay the fare, and the taxi can be shared with others. Twenty-five taxi companies are partners in this project. Checks can be ordered via the AWSR website, the Walloon agency specifies.

It will also be possible to use BackSafe checks during New Year’s Eve.

According to a recent AWSR study, only 32% of young people aged between 18 and 30 systematically decide, before going out, about who will drive home. "It is also disturbing to note that one out of 14 young drivers (7%) never orders a BOB (Deliberately Sober Driver) in advance," the regional agency adds.
