A new rule to make it possible for doctors and other care-givers to speak out in cases of female genital mutilation (FGM) has been unanimously agreed by MPs.

Afsca closes down abattoir in Geel

The Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (Afsca) has closed down an abattoir in Geel, Antwerp Province, where problems of hygiene and infrastructure had already been detected two years ago, Het Laatste Nieuws reported on Thursday.
The Flemish health agency, Vlaams Agentschap Zorg en Gezondheid, has received notification that 225 children from 38 schools in West and East Flanders have been infected by the Salmonella bacteria, it was reported on Monday.

Smoking rates are dropping in Belgium, but are still “enormously high”, health care expert Dr. Anne Boucquiau stressed on Monday, on the sidelines of the presentation of the Générations sans tabac (Generations without Tobacco) movement.
