Three Belgian footballers are among six candidates shortlisted for the title of English Premier League Player of the Month for January 2018.
They are Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City), Eden Hazard (Chelsea) and Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham). The other players on the list, released on Wednesday, are Argentina’s Sergio Agüero (Manchester City), Dane Christian Eriksen (Tottenham) and Englishman Callum Wilson (Bournemouth).

Eden Hazard received the award in October 2016 and Jan Vertonghen in March 2013. Kevin De Bruyne has never won it.

If one of the three Red Devils is chosen by the public, he would be the first to receive this distinction since March 2017, when it was conferred upon Romelu Lukaku, while he was still with Everton.

The first Red Devil ever to have been honoured in this way was Marouane Fellaini (Everton), in October 2012.  Also among the Belgian players to have received the honour is Christian Benteke (Aston Villa), who won it in April 2015.
