Two environmental organisations have criticised the use of plastic bottles at pit-stops during the Brussels 20km on Sunday.
"The 300,000 plastic bottles that Spa gave out during the Brussels 20km does not reflect the producer Spadel's pure image", say associations Conscious Crew and Recycling Netwerk Benelux.

They have even called it hypocritical. "This bottled water producer builds its image around respecting the environment, but is quite happy to hand out 300,000 plastic bottles that will be used for a few minutes and then thrown away".

The organisations have called on Spadel not to oppose the system of deposits for plastic bottles and cans, which is currently being discussed by Federal authorities.
