A security perimeter was put in place and the street was completely closed to traffic. The man repeatedly contacted the police after his first call, according to reports.
As a result of the various phone calls, the police were able to locate the individual. He was, in fact, not in the Rue Haute. The police arrested the man at 5:30 pm in a building on rue Royale. The suspect did not have a weapon on him.
“He was eventually arrested unarmed in Hoogstraat," police spokesperson for the area Ilse Van de Keere told Bruzz. There were, therefore, no casualties.
The motivations for the call are unclear at this time.
