The newspaper Knack reported on its Internet site on Tuesday that the inspector had published a number of items containing Islamophobic and violent content on Facebook. This information was confirmed by the Brussels-West police.
The Chief Inspector for the Safety of Public Transport in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, Jette, Ganshoren and Koekelberg, is thought to have published Islamophobic and violent messages in recent years. One such example is a collage based on a Decathlon advert, showing munitions accompanied by the reference “Special Migration”. Since the end of 2016 a video of an attack showing “what will happen to Israel’s enemies” has also appeared.
Johan Berckmans, the spokesman for the Brussels-West police and the Commissioner for the local police, said, “We have actually received various complaints regarding these publications, so we have therefore opened an inquest.” He went on, “The inquest is in the hands of internal surveillance services, and we are awaiting the results. We can then decide what sanctions should be taken against the inspector.”
