Skeyes risk fines of up to 20,000 euros per cancelled flight

Skeyes risks fines of up to 20,000 euros per flight that has been cancelled by the strikes of the air traffic controllers. The judge of the summary proceeding, a fast-tracked proceeding in a lower court, ruled that air traffic control centre Skeyes is obliged to guarantee the service, after a complaint from Brussels Airlines.

Skeyes has to pay large fines if flights are cancelled before 26 May: 10,000 euros per cancelled European flight, and up to 20,000 euros for long-haul flights. They will also have to pay a substantial amount for all delays and diversions, reported VRT NWS.

On Thursday, the Belgian airspace was closed the whole morning, which caused a lot of hindrance in the airports.
