A Belgian tourist needed helicopter rescue from a French mountain on Wednesday after she twisted her ankle while hiking wearing flip-flops.
The woman, in her 40s, was hiking the Dent du Chat - an almost 1,400-metre high mountain in the region of Savoie - with her boyfriend. She twisted her foot and sprained her ankle while they descended the mountain, reports French regional newspaper Le Dauphiné.
After they were notified, the emergency services sent a helicopter to the scene. The woman was then flown with her boyfriend to the hospital in Chambéry.
The emergency services took the opportunity to restate the importance of adequate equipment for hiking in the mountains.
