Belgian hospitals admitted less than 150 Coronavirus patients per day from 26 February to 4 March, which was 24% lower than the average for the previous week, according to an update issued on Saturday by Sciensano public health institute, Belga News Agency reports.
The total number of persons hospitalised due to Covid-19 was 2,056, 18% less than a week ago. This included 217 patients in intensive care, a 13% drop.
Between 23 February and 1 March, some 5,854 cases of Covid-19 infections were diagnosed on average per day. This was 24% lower than the previous week. The positivity rate was 18.9%, ranging from 24.9% in Limburg to 10.9% in Brussels.
During the same period, the average number of persons dying each day from the virus shrank by 37% to 20.4, bringing the cumulative total of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 30,259.
An average 11% of beds in intensive care units are occupied each month by Covid-19 patients.
The virus now has a reproduction rate of 0.86. When this rate is under 1.0, it means the epidemic is slowing down.
