A 29-year-old man has driven into a crowd of people in Berlin, killing one person and leaving 6 others in a life-threatening condition.

At approximately 10:30 this morning, an individual, known to police, drove a Renault Clio into a group of people on Tauentzienstraße, a major shopping street in West Berlin. He then crashed into the shop window of a nearby cosmetics store.

Passers-by detained the driver before he was brought into police custody. Police have confirmed that a confession letter was located in his vehicle but no motive has been revealed.
