Free e-scooter rides for EU voters on Sunday

Electric scooter company Lime has announced that it will offer free rides to voters heading to the polls on Sunday in cities across Europe, in a move meant to promote participation in the upcoming European Parliament election.

The initiative, the result of a partnership between the American e-scooter rental company and the European Parliament, will benefit all European Union citizens living in a city where Lime is operating.

Voters will be able to get their free ride to the polls through Lime’s smartphone application, where a promotional code will be shared on the morning of May 26.

In Belgium, the promotion will be available from 6:00 AM until 21:00.

While voting in Belgium is obligatory, it is not the case in other member states, some of which have registered high-abstention numbers in past European elections, as is the case in France.

Riders are encouraged to follow security guidelines when using the scooters, as the promotional day-pass will also offer to rent a free helmet.

With hundreds of thousands of users in EU capitals like Brussels and Paris, it remains to be seen whether voters will go along for the ride this Sunday.
