The Covid-19 virus can be transmitted from cats to humans, according to a study in the scientific journal Emerging Infectious Diseases.

In the study, researchers describe the case of a veterinarian who was infected by the virus in August 2021 in Songkhla, Thailand. A cat that tested positive for Covid-19 had sneezed on the vet while she was treating it, Belga News Agency reports.

Researchers suspect that the animal had contracted the virus from its two owners. Genome sequencing showed that the virus found in the cat was very close to the one detected in the vet and in the animal’s two owners.
