The street in Sint-Stevens-Woluwe where the new Wol U project is located used to be a street full of offices, and during recent years the majority of the office buildings have been transformed into residential developments, thanks to the strategic location close to Brussels.
Wol U will be the new, green living environment and there will be 7 residential buildings in a lush, green landscape that will accommodate a variety of functions, including 199 apartments, co-housing units, a crèche and retail, hospitality and service spaces.
In short, a living environment with lots of its own on-site facilities.
Unique location
Sint-Stevens-Woluwe is an excellent location being close to Brussels with many amenities on and around the site, so you can enjoy all the urban facilities with nature on your doorstep.
The new Wol U is project is situated on the banks of the Woluwe and nestled in a wide valley, where the water winds its way through the greenery and where all necessary amenities can be found.
You can go for a long walk along the Woluwepad, where nature is never too far away, or hop on your bike and explore the new cycle route that runs right past your front door.
Just 5 minutes from Wol U, you can enjoy an afternoon of shopping at the Woluwe Shopping Center with its 180 shops and restaurants, with other shops in Zaventem and Kraainem.
Wol U also boasts excellent transport links. You can drive into Brussels in just 15 minutes, to Leuven in 17 minutes, and the airport is also nearby (without the noise of the airplanes!). Also, because the project is located close to the intersection of the ring road around Brussels, the E40, NATO, Saint Luc Hospital and the European School, the neighbourhood is very well suited for expats.
Nature and architecture
Research shows unobstructed views do help to drop our stress levels because they give us a sense of security and control, and spending time in nature also has a positive effect on our physical, mental and emotional health. And that is exactly what Wol U stands for: the combination of unobstructed views, a green environment and numerous urban facilities at hand.
The master plan of Wol U, which fixes the implantation of the buildings and the space for nature, was created by BUUR. Their motto is that you can create a resilient society by creating a healthy living environment. When drawing up the master plan, the expansion and connection of the open space was central. Literally connecting people with nature: that is the guiding principle of Wol U.
Architect Erik Dhont, an expert in garden design, was called upon to develop the landscaping. He is known for his work on the gardens of the Picasso Museum in Paris and believes that gardens are not only meant to be enjoyed, but also to be places where one can grow and heal.
The stylish architectural design of Wol U is the result of a successful collaboration between three leading architectural firms - BOB361, POLO and A1AR. All three have created buildings, in which subtlety and an eye for detail play an important role.
Phase 2
Phase 2 of the Wol U project will be launching sooner than anticipated, because of the success of the project.
The Brussels Times spoke to Sales Consultant Johannes Degroote from ION and we asked him why the project has been so popular:
"We are surprised to see how many expats show interest in this project. For the moment nearly a third of our buyers are not originally from Belgium. I am happy to see we attract a very diversified group of buyers who seem to appreciate the fact that in this project, you buy so much more than just bricks, with the large volume of nature that comes with the apartment,” he said.
