Auchan has been hit by a cyberattack that compromised data from loyalty accounts belonging to “several hundred thousand” customers, the French retail chain revealed on Thursday.
The breached data includes customer names, email and postal addresses, phone numbers, and loyalty card numbers, according to a company statement.
Auchan assured the public that the incident has been contained. It also confirmed that bank details, passwords, PIN codes, and loyalty card balances were not affected.
The impacted clients are being notified, and France’s data protection authority, CNIL, has been informed.
A spokesperson for Auchan told French news agency AFP that the scope of the breach involved “a few hundred thousand” customers.
This is not the first time Auchan has faced such an attack: a similar breach occurred in November 2024.
France has seen a surge in major cyberattacks in recent years.
This month, over six million customer accounts at Bouygues Telecom were compromised, resulting in sensitive data leaks, including banking details.
