Hundreds of coronavirus protestors gather outside RTBF offices in Brussels

Some 200 people staged a demonstration in front of the RTBF headquarter building in Schaerbeek on Sunday evening.

This follows an afternoon of widespread protesting across the city against the latest covid measures.

“During the large demonstration in the centre of Brussels, leaflets were distributed calling for a rally at 5pm in front of the RTBF buildings,” local police spokeswoman Audrey Dereymaeker said according to Belga news agency.

“We were informed of this and held a consultation with the mayor of Schaerbeek, who decided to allow the demonstration.”

At around 5pm, the first protesters gathered close to the building, and shortly after around 200 people had joined the protest.

“The protesters tried to enter the RTBF grounds and climb a fence but our officers were able to stop them and push them back,” the police spokeswoman added.

According to VRT, the Flemish national public broadcaster,  whose offices are in the same building complex as RTBF, the protesters wanted to denounce “the media lies and manipulation of people.”

They also reportedly demanded that their own experts be invited to RTBF programmes.

Among the demonstrators was a group of health workers who refuse vaccination and who oppose their upcoming suspension.
