Three people were hit by a bus operated by Brussels public transport company STIB on Monday afternoon, resulting in two injured pedestrians and the bus driver being taken to hospital.

Although the exact cause of the accident has not yet been confirmed, the bus, on line 87, swerved near the Simonis bus stop in Koekelberg around 13:00 on Monday, hitting three people.

"We are still waiting to receive more information about the accident, but we know that there are three people injured, including two pedestrians who were brought to the hospital," STIB spokesperson Guy Sablon told The Brussels Times.

The bus driver, who is in shock, was also brought to the hospital, but for emotional reasons, not due to physical injuries.

One of the injured people is in critical condition, according to the Brussels fire brigade, but more details are not yet available. The road was partially closed where the accident took place.
