KU Leuven Faculty of Economics and Business and Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles launch new joint bachelor’s degree in Business Engineering

KU Leuven Faculty of Economics and Business and Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles launch new joint bachelor’s degree in Business Engineering

Starting in September 2020, the KU Leuven Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Economics, Social and Political Sciences and Communication of the Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles will jointly organise a new, English-language bachelor’s programme in Business Engineering.

This is the first joint bachelor degree to be organised in Belgium for KU Leuven across both Flemish and French Communities.

A Bachelor of Science degree in Business Engineering programme will give graduates access to the same opportunities and graduate studies as its equivalents in French – the Bachelier en ingénieur de gestion – or in Dutch – the Bachelor of Science Handelsingenieur.

The degree will train students to analyse and resolve the problems encountered in managing companies and organisations from a quantitative perspective. The unique combination of business  economics, quantitative methods, and science and technology will offer students the opportunity to cultivate a much sought after multidisciplinary approach towards business.

The programme is fully in line with the fruitful collaboration that KU Leuven Brussels campus and the Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles have maintained for more than 25 years, which has already resulted in several joint bilingual bachelor's degrees.

Prof. Dr. Filip Van den Bossche, vice dean of Education, Faculty of Economics and Business, KU Leuven notes: “We are delighted to launch this new bachelor programme with Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles.

The Business Engineering programme offers students thorough schooling in business economics and the various business disciplines, such as finance and accounting, marketing, human resources, production and logistics, and ICT.

The combination of human sciences with quantitative methods and engineering will provide students with a unique perspective on business operations. Through this programme, we want to prepare the next generation of business leaders in a complex world.”

Prof. Dr. Xavier Wauthy, dean of the Faculty of Economics, Social and Political Sciences and Communication, Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles, also looks forward to the cooperation:. “Organising this new programme confirms the desire of the Université Saint-Louis – Bruxelles to broaden our programmes geared towards genuine international competences. It also illustrates the shared desire of our universities (Saint-Louis – Bruxelles and KU Leuven Brussels campus) to intensify our partnerships in the very heart of the European capital.”

Study in the heart of Europe in a truly international environment

Organised in the heart of Brussels, the Bachelor of Science in Business Engineering programme is aimed at Belgian and international students who plan to embark on high-level management careers.

Because the courses will be taught on the Brussels campuses of the two institutions (which are approximately 500 metres apart), students are immersed in different cultures. The students will also have the opportunity to further broaden their horizons through an Erasmus exchange.

On top of that both institutions attract students and scholars from across the globe. This international focus is further reflected in the wide network of international partner institutions.

What will this new "Full English" Bachelor's programme lead to and how will it be organised?

This Bachelor in Business Engineering programme will culminate in a Bachelor of Science degree, which will give access to the same graduate studies and career opportunities as its equivalents in French – the Bachelier en ingénieur de gestion – or in Dutch –  the Bachelor of Science Handelsingenieur.

The courses cover all areas of management (production management, marketing, human resources, finance, etc.) and offer an important opening towards economic sciences. The Business Engineering student will also be trained to assimilate new information and communication technologies, as well as engineering sciences (physics, electronics and materials science), from a managerial perspective.
