EU adopts new sanctions against Russia

The European Union has formally adopted new sanctions against Russia, said Council President Herman Van Rompuy on Monday.

These sanctions will not come into effect immediately and will depend on Russia’s compliance with the cease-fire. "The sanctions will come into effect in the coming days. This delay will allow time to assess the implementation of the cease-fire and the peace plan," said Mr. Van Rompuy in a statement.

"Depending on the evolution of the situation, the EU stands ready to revise the sanctions, in part or entirely," he added.
