5,000 Belgians want out of Google search engine results

Over 5,000 Belgians have filled in Google's "Forget Me" form after the American heavyweight offered internet users the opportunity to have information about them deleted from Google's search results. This represents a total of 15,000 records, half of which have already been taken down, the Het Nieuwsblad, Het Belang van Limburg and De Standaard newspapers reported on Monday. In Europe alone, Google has already received some 500,000 requests to have search engine information taken down since May. 17,000 of these have already been dealt with. The company is getting around 1,000 forms daily, which are then sent for examination by experts.

Certain bankers who appear regularly on the web have requested their financial mishaps be 'forgotten', but Google says these takedown requests have been denied.

On the other hand, a German sexual abuse victim had her request granted. Google, by far the dominant in the search engine world, has taken its name off the concerned pages.
