Wales: death of the author Anne Jackson, born in Belgium

The lifeless body of the Irish author Anne Jackson, 78, was discovered at her home in Usk (Wales) on Saturday. Born in Belgium, Anne Jackson had chosen Irish nationality. Under the pseudonym Anne Cluysenaar, she made a name for herself as a poet and author and taught at Manchester, Dublin and Aberdeen universities. Her 48 year old stepson has been arrested for murder, according to the British media.  Anne Jackson was born in Belgium in 1936, from the relationship between the Belgian artist John Cluysenaar and the Scottish painter Sybil Fitzgerald Hewat. The family fled to Great Britain three years after the start of the Second World War. She was 14 when the family moved to Ireland.

Anne Jackson was passionate about poetry and literature and had a career teaching English and American literature as well as creative writing at universities.

She had lived with her husband Walt at Llantrisant, near Usk in Wales, for more than a quarter of a century. She was found dead at her home on Saturday evening. The couple had celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary just a few days before.

The author’s stepson appeared before the court charged with murder on Tuesday. He is currently behind bars
