Opening of a brasserie serving tins of conserves announced for Brussels

The bar de Belmonte, linked to the Hotel Saint-Géry on the square with the same name in Brussels, will launch the “Gin and Tonic” bar on the 15th of January. It will serve tapas of conserves imported from different countries, the bar’s manager Lorraine Okker announced on Thursday. It’s the first of its kind in Belgium. Dirk Allemand, the owner, explains that the concept has already developed in Spain, Portugal, and even England since September. “The bar’s name, “de Belmonte”, comes from a small Portuguese village. In Portugal, there are companies that sell fish as a conserve. They are high quality products. We essentially sell fish and sea food in tins: oysters, calamari…..  We import them from Portugal, France, Spain, Greece, England, Iceland, even Canada. There will also be pâtés, olives….

The project’s owners want to offer only quality products. They will be served in “trendy” tins of conserves, in accordance with the style of the bar. The gin will be import only, from various countries, such as the United States, Germany and France. Herbs specific to these different types of gin will be added to the drinks.

The hotel, open since 2012, is already based on an original concept. The 24 bedrooms on offer were decorated by Belgian artists, among them Jan Vandromme and Arnaud Gsell. There is also one by the digital artist Jean-Jacques Bodart.
