Hors Champ, an association of cinema professions, will mobilize for the marginalized culture of the Magritte du Cinéma evening. It is planned on the 7th of February in Brussels, the association announced on Wednesday.
Last year, Hors Champ became known through its mobilization to denounce the suppression of the artist’s status, which took place during the same ceremony.
In conjunction with numerous associations representing the different artistic sectors, as well as civil movements Tout Autre Chose and Hart Boven Hard, the association will organize a symbolic and visual action. It will take place at 6pm on Saturday at the Mont des Arts. It aims to denounce austerity’s impact on culture.
Together, inside and outside the ceremony, the artists will say “No to the cultural black-out caused by the austerity policy”. “Investing in culture is investing in the future. This is true on an economical level and a human level. It’s investing in what gives us our sense and identity. Culture is a massive constructive weapon”, they say.
To show their solidarity, Walloon farmers gave them an apple, the symbol of the fight for culture and artists.
