The judges gave Belgian Manu Dacosse the Best Photographer award during the 63rd San Sebastian Festival (Spain) on Saturday. He was rewarded for his work on the film “Evolution”, by French director Lucile Hadzihalilovic, Wallonia Brussels Images announced.
The film tells the story of Nicolas, an 11 year old boy who lives on an estate by the sea with his mother. The only center of activity is the hospital, where all the boys in the village are subjected to strange medical experiments, which aim to reverse the stages of evolution.
The film, which is a Franco-Belgian-Spanish cooperation, was also given the Festival’s special jury prize.
Another Belgian, Joachim Lafosse, won the Silver Shell for best director, for his film “The White Knights”. It was shown at the Festival, the first time in Europe.
Shot in the Erfoud region of Morocco, the film is inspired by the “Zoe Arch” affair, which made headlines in 2007. Vincent Lindon plays the charismatic director of the Non-governmental Organisation, and Valérie Donzelli plays a journalist who observed an operation to rescue 300 orphans, who were victims of the civil war in West Sudan. Louise Bourgoin and Reda Kateb also feature.
