Tribute to Belgian animation film maker Picha

On the occasion of 50 years of support for film creation in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Cinema and Audiovisual Centre has set up the 50/50: Fifty Years of Belgian Film, Fifty Years of Discoveries operation honouring 50 films that have marked the history of French speaking Belgian films. It's Picha's turn to be celebrated with The Missing Link, a comedy with rock music soundtrack portraying a far-fetched explanation of the Dawn of Man.

From 1960 Picha started working as a press cartoonist and illustrator for publications including La Libre BelgiqueHara-KiriHarpes and The New York Times. He also made a number of satirical animated features that have remained famous, like Tarzoon, the Shame of the Jungle.

Picha will be attending ANIMA 2018 to present The Missing Link on Tuesday 13 February at Flagey. On 14 February he is interviewed by André Joassin at the Cinematek at 4 pm. The retrospective of his work will then carry on with the screenings of The Shame of the Jungle, Snow White and the Big Bang at the Cinematek.
