Belgian films "Nos Batailles" and "Girl" win awards at Hamburg and Zurich festivals

“Girl” by Lukas Dhont won the award for Best Feature Length Film at Zurich Film Festival. “Nos Batailles” by Franco-Belgo director Guillaume Senez was handed the Critic’s Choice Award at the closing ceremony for the Hamburg International Film Festival on Saturday. 

This means two Belgian films won awards at the Zurich (Switzerland) and Hamburg (Germany) international film festivals. 

“Girl” by Lukas Dhont won the “Golden Eye Award” at Zurich Film Festival, which is it’s 9th award. It won four awards at Cannes. The film was made with the help of Flemish audio-visual funds. It tells the true story of a teenage girl who was born a boy and also dreams of being a ballerina.    

Young cinematographer Guillaume Senez won Critic’s Choice for “Nos Batailles” at Hamburg. It is his second feature length film and stars Romain Duris and Laetitia Dosch It tells the story of Olivier, who has to balance his union commitments and family life after his wife leaves unannounced. 

The film was produced by Iota Production (French-language Belgium), Savage Film (Flanders) and Les Films Pelleas (France). It came out on the 4th of October and was distributed by Cinéart. The film was financed by the Brussels-Wallonia Federation Cinema and Audio-visual Centre, the VAF (Flemish Audio-visual Funds), the RTBF, VOO, Be tv and the Federal Belgian Government Tax Shelter, among others.
