Soeurs Sacramentines Convent in Halle hosts John Paul II relic

A piece of cloth soaked with the blood of Pope John Paul II, canonized in 2014, is on display for the devotion of the faithful during nine days in Halle's Soeurs Sacramentines Convent, nuns indicated Friday on Facebook. The fabric comes from clothes worn by the Polish pope during the 1981 attack on the Saint Peter's Square.

The relic, which comes from the Bois-le-Duc Seminary (Netherlands), was installed on Saturday during mass celebration in the convent chapel. The relic will then be displayed for veneration, while masses will be celebrated every day. The novena will end Sunday, 24 February with the celebration of Sunday Mass at 8.30 am.

The pontificate of Karol Wojtyla, who became Pope John Paul II, ran from 1978 to his death in 2005, and is the third longest in the history of Catholicism after those of St. Peter and Pius IX.
