According to Arnaud Reymann, Infrabel’s spokesperson,” the security infrastructure of the crossings should not be brought into question. It is user behavior that is not appropriate”, he says. Infrabel would therefore like to reiterate the golden rules of safety:  as soon as the buzzer sounds do not try to navigate the space between the barriers , do not resume your  course while the traffic light is red and  do not try to zigzag between the gates when they are lowered.

In the first half of 2014, accidents at railroad crossings resulted in an average delay of two hours per day (21,281 minutes) on the network.

Infrabel  invests an average of 20 million euros per year in the removal of these intersections between road and rail, in order to reduce risk behaviors .
