Belgian victim identified 13 years after 9/11

Thirteen years after the September 11th attacks in New York, a Belgian victim has been positively identified. On Tuesday, the Medical Examiner of New York confirmed the identity of Patrice Braut. He was identified through new DNA tests conducted on human remains found during the first recovery operations at the site of the World Trade Center in 2001 and 2002. Out of the 21,906 human remains found at the location where the Twin Towers collapsed, only 60% of the 2,753 missing persons in the New York attacks have been formally identified (i.e. 1,639 people). For 1,114 others, no trace has ever been found. 7,885 of the 21,906 human remains found have not yet been identified but because of a promise made to the families, tests continue to be conducted and with the help of new technology a handful of new identifications have been made.
