Ebola - woman taken to hospital in Antwerp as preventative measure

On Tuesday evening, a patient at the hospital in Brasschaat was transferred to Antwerp University Hospital following her recent trip to Sierra Leone, a country badly hit by the Ebola virus. The facts were reported by TV channel VTM and also confirmed by hospital management. The patient did not, however, have any symptoms similar to those caused by the virus, a high temperature, for example. "This is a purely precautionary measure because we do not wish to take any risks and Antwerp University Hospital is better equipped to deal with this kind of situation," said the Brasschaat clinic's deputy director, Chris D'Espallier.

The patient came to the Brasschaat clinic to give birth, not because she was afraid she might have the Ebola virus. "She had none of the symptoms, but we nevertheless transferred her to Antwerp University Hospital as a precaution in case she was later diagnosed as being infected with the virus. Therefore, no further action need be taken as regards medical staff or our patients," said Mr D'Espallier.
