A record 137 mobile phones stolen every day in Belgium in 2013

In 2013, Federal Police recorded a total of 49,988 reports of cell phone theft, an average of 137 per day, reported Sudpresse on Wednesday. The police have never before had to deal with this many phone theft incidents. In 2012, it recorded 46,770, up from 43,922 in 2011 which was itself an increase on the 2010 figure of 40,804.

As cell phones get more and more expensive, they also become more and more attractive to thieves.

Victims are increasingly not even bothering to report the theft and simply blocking their simcard instead.
