Ebola - Antwerp calls for nationwide information campaign

The city of Antwerp has asked the federal Ministry of Public Health to launch a public awareness campaign across the country to inform the public about the Ebola virus. It believes this will prevent society being gripped by mass fear over the virus and also ensure certain groups within the population will not be stigmatized and discriminated against, the Antwerp Gazette reported on Friday. "Knowledge about this terrible disease must be prevented from degenerating into general psychosis," said Fons Duchateau (N-VA),  Welfare alderman for Antwerp. "If the campaign doesn't reach certain sections of the population, then we can use our network of organizations in the field," he added.

For the time being, the Federal Health Services have no plans to launch a large-scale campaign and is instead posting useful information about the virus on its website.
