Shooting in Visé - Prime suspect in triple murder released by Liège Court

On Thursday afternoon, the Council Chamber of Liege ordered the release of the prime suspect in the triple murder that occurred on April 18th. The individual, 32 years old and lives in Hesbaye, was arrested on September 10th. The prosecution has 24 hours to appeal the decision. During the appearance of his client before the council chamber, Me Zevenne argued that his client be released based on the grounds that there was no physical evidence linking his client to the crime. His DNA was not found on the sleeves sealed and no powder residue or traces of blood were found on any clothing worn by the suspect on the day of the incident.

On April 18th, an intruder broke into the home of Benoit Philippens and Carol Haid, both bankers aged 36 and 38 years old. Carol’s 9-year old godson, Esteban was also present in the house that night. The shooter killed all three in order to send a personal message to Benedict Philippens.

Due to the absence of an alibi and because there was evidence of a personal dispute, the main suspect was jailed after a five-month investigation.
