On Friday, 173,718 schoolchildren in Belgium wearing fluorescent backpacks rode their bicycles to school. The National Bike Day is an initiative of the Vital Cycling Power platform. In total, more than 892 schools and 9,651 classrooms across Belgium participated in the event.
Vital Cycling Power also took the time to stress the importance of adequate exercise and a healthy diet.
A study of the lifestyle of Belgian school children reveals that less than one in four children ride their bike to school every week.
