An Elia worker electrocuted in a high-voltage cabin

A 37 year old man died on Friday in Beerse (Antwerp) after being electrocuted, according to the tabloids Het Belang van Limburg and Het Nieuwsblad. This was confirmed by Elia, which manages the high-voltage electricity transportation network. An inspection of the site has led to an inquest being opened.
The man was working on the high-voltage cabin with a colleague and a sub-contractor’s employees.
No-one seems to know exactly what happened. “We are still trying to work out what happened”, declared Elia’s spokesperson Barbara Verhaegen. “This kind of incident is of course regrettable”.
