Belgian experts advocate creation of “Centre of Excellence for Climate Research"

Many Belgian climate experts have sent a letter to Prime Minister Charles Michel, calling for a "Centre of Excellence for Climate Research” to be set up in Belgium, reported Le Soir on Monday. Signatories include climatologists, glaciologists, carbon cycle experts, geologists, geographers, mathematicians, biodiversity specialists, soil chemists and sustainable development experts. They come from universities and scientific institutions from all over the country.

According to them, Belgium has leading climate researchers, but their research activity is "too disparate and fragmented".

The future centre would centralise basic research results and data and make them more easily accessible to climate experts. Its mission would also be to provide impartial information to the public authorities and the various players involved (businesses, civil society organizations, etc.).
