Risk of power cuts – drinking water supply also threatened during a black out

The supply of drinking water could be threatened during power cuts this winter, the Het BeLang van Limburg, De Standaard and Het Nieuwsbald revealed on Monday. “Electricity is needed to produce drinking water, and to pump it to water towers and water reservoirs”, explains De Watergroep, the largest drinking water distributor in Flanders. They are currently working on a plan to get the maximum amount of water to the population during a black out.

“But if the electricity supply is cut for several zones at the same time, we cannot promise that we could supply water to every household”, the company warns.
