Police fear crash between helicopter and drone

Police fear crash between helicopter and drone

The Federal Police has asked all its units and services to hunt down drones from the air, fearing that one of these machines might collide with a police helicopter. Last Friday, Het Nieuwsblad, De Standaard and Sudpresse wrote that Minister for Mobility, Jacqueline Galant (MR), supported this initiative. She also reminded people that flying drones remained prohibited in the eyes of the law.

More and more photographers and cameramen are now using drones, as indeed are some fire brigades, causing the Federal Police Air Support Unit to fear a collision between a drone and one of its low-flying helicopters. This was indeed the case during the national demonstration, on November 6th.

But she also argues that drones can also represent a hazard in other circumstances, if it lost power and crashed down into a crowd, for example.
