Around 60 people meet at Verviers for a memoiral service for Ilias Farès

Around 60 people met in the center of Verviers for a memorial service on Saturday afternoon for Ilias Farès. The 27 year old man was found dead early on the 10th of November 2013 after a fight in Verviers. Around 60 people met on Saturday afternoon in front of the Grand Bazar in Verviers, where Ilias Farès, 27, lost his life. The young man was fatally stabbed during a fight.

People close to the victim organized the service in memory of the young man, but also to signal their concerns. ‘‘The family are worried the case is not being dealt with properly‘‘, said their lawyer, Mr Petit. ‘‘Five of the six suspects were released, while the sixth, the one who actually did the stabbing, has fled to Morocco“, added the lawyer.

The council are expected to give a verdict on the case next week. ‘‘We are pushing for a trial in front of the Correctional Tribunal for the five suspects in custody. And a Crown court for the one who has run away if he returns to Belgium one day“, explains Mr Petit. Mr Petit regrets that the civil party has never had the possibility to properly examine the CCTV images.

No incidents were reported following the service, which finished around 15.30pm.
