Thursday, 27 November 2014
The first “Shortest Day” (Jour le plus Court) will showcase short films on the 21st of December. The event, which exists in other countries, will take place in 19 different places in eight areas of Wallonia and Brussels. An initiative by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, it is coordinated by the Audiovisual and Cinema Center (Centre du Cinéma et de l’Audiovisuel) with different organizations in the area. The aim is to “validate and promote the richness and production of this format with the biggest audience possible. But also to honour the actors and venues that work on the diffusion of short films all year round”, said the organizers in a press release.
Associations, Cultural Centers, public libraries, local cinemas, Youth centers, media libraries, café-restaurants… will all take part and offer events.
The RTBF and and BeTV, event partners, will adapt their schedules for the occasion. The public channel RTBF will put a “Short Night” (Nuit du Court) on channel 3 from Saturday the 20th of December at 22.30. It will continue until Sunday the 21st of December at 6am. The paying channel BeTV will put seven short films on BeCiné at 22.30.
The “Shortest Day” was launched four years ago in France, before becoming international. Last year, 54 countries took part.
