Binche: an orthopaedist suspected of defrauding the INAMI out of more than 50,000 euros

An orthopaedist, who runs five stores in Wallonia and Brussels, has been arrested for deception, fraud, and laundering. He is suspected of fraudulently obtaining 50,000 from the INAMI (Institut national d’assurance maladie-invalidité, national health and disability insurance institute) over several years. Didier D, an orthopaedist in his 50s, was placed under arrest by the Charleroi investigating judge, we learned from a judicial source.

The manager of the company Medical Diffusion, which has establishments at Binche, Brussels, Wavre, Andenne, and Namur, he is suspected of deception end false usage, fraud, and laundering. In the file, he is accused of defrauding the Inami by handing in false prosthetic requests for patients that didn’t need them. The total amount defrauded is estimated to be 50,000 euros by the investigators, but it could go up to millions of euros.

Didier D is also suspected of tax and social fraud. He spends most of his time living in Thailand. He took money from his restaurant almost every day in cash, to pay his employees overtime on the black.

Greeted by law enforcement offices upon his return from Thailand, the orthopaedist was questioned and placed under arrest on Thursday. His five stores were seized by the federal judiciary police and the investigating judge. The Charleroi work Labour magistrate and the Order of Doctors from the different boroughs were present during the raid.

On Tuesday, the Charleroi Council Chamber prolonged the arrest warrant for a month.
