The lorry driver involved in a fatal road accident in Hal last Wednesday was give a lifetime driving ban, said Hal-Vilvoorde public prosecutor’s department on Monday, confirming a report by VRT. Daniel Dequinze, the alleged driver of the lorry, has been missing since the accident and the prosecutor has instructed police be on the look out for him. A 71-year-old woman died in the accident. The accident took place around 4.45pm at the intersection between Chaussée de Ninove and Avenue August Demaeght in Hal. The victim was hit by the lorry and run over, before being trapped and dragged for several hundred meters. The lorry didn’t stop and drove off.
The vehicle was later found, minus driver, in the Gembloux region. According to the first findings of the investigation, the traffic lights were green for both the victim and the driver.
The police believe the man to be driving either a light-coloured (light blue or metallic grey) Mercedes E-Class or a green Ford pickup with a Luxembourg license plate (UH5670). He is probably staying in and around the area of Liege, Wanze, Aywaille and Sprimont.
