Pedestrian injured by tram in Laeken: public prosecutor opens investigation

According to a witness, the pedestrian who was hit by a line 3 tram in Laeken on Tuesday morning had previously been hit by another tram. This information has not, however, been confirmed.  Given the lack of clarity regarding the circumstances of the accident, the public prosecutor's department has opened an investigation to determine if it was simply an accident or if there was some malicious intent, announced Brussels' public prosecutor's department on Tuesday.

The accident took place at about 6:00am near Quai des Usines, around the morning market in Laeken. A pedestrian was hit by a line 3 tram in circumstances that remain unclear. The man suffered two open fractures to his legs and was taken to hospital. He is still in intensive care although his condition is not considered critical. His identity has not been revealed.

The tram driver made a witness statement.

Given the unclear circumstances, the public prosecutor's department, federal police forensic department and a car expert visited the scene.
