A car hits three pedestrians on the Place de la Monnaie, not a terrorist attack

A driver ran into three pedestrians on the Place de la Monnaie in Brussels, according to a press release by the Brussels Prosecutor’s Office that appeared on Sunday. The reason for the incident is not known. Investigators currently think it is an accident and not a terrorist act. The suspect has been taken into custody and is being questioned by police, the Prosecutor’s Office added. It did not want to release more information about the case on Sunday, but will hold a press conference at 11am.

The ice rink for the Christmas Market is currently on the Place de la Monnaie.

Last Monday, a driver also ran into pedestrians at the Christmas Market in Nantes (France). One person was killed and nine other people were injured. The next day, a similar accident happened in Dijon, causing another death and injuring 13 people.
