Body discovered in Mornimont possibly 80-year-old who disappeared in Chatelineau

The body found at 8:30am on Tuesday morning in the Sambre, at the Mornimont lock (Jemeppe-sur-Sambre, region of Namur), “is probably” that of an octogenarian from Montignies-sur-Sambre (Charleroi, Hainaut), who disappeared last Saturday, revealed Colonel Marc Gilbert from Sambreville fire department (who intervened on site) on Tuesday afternoon. The victim is yet to be formally identified. An autopsy will be performed, said Colonel Gilbert.

The exact cause of death is still unknown, but assumed to be accidental rather than criminal, added Colonel Gilbert.

88-year-old Willy H. had left “L’Aurore” retirement home in Montignies-sur-Sambre on January 3rd last week and was last seen at around 9:40am at the Chatelineau train station, according to a missing person report broadcast by federal police at the request of the Hainaut public prosecutor.

On their website, federal police have filed the case as “solved” and revealed that the missing person was found on Tuesday.
