Smaller budget for the King’s private trips

The budget for the King’s private trips is 48,000 euros less than last year. The government wants him to contribute to Defense savings. Last year, the sovereign went on 28 trips, which cost the State 218,000 euros, reported the Het Laaste Nieuws on Thursday. The budget for King Philippe’s private trips has been reduced by 20% this year, meaning it’s now 192,000 euros.

The King did not use his whole budget in 2014. He had 240,000 available, out of which 218,000 was spent. The sovereign travelled mainly to France (8 times), Italy (6 times), and Switzerland (5 times). The most expensive trip (40,496 euros) was to India at the end of December.
