Arrested in Ottignies shop, thief pretends to be... looking for job

A man armed with a crowbar was arrested in a shop in Ottignies late on Saturday evening, revealed the Nivelles prosecutor. In an attempt to exonerate himself, he pretended he was there to look for a job. The manager of a beauty salon on Avenue des Combattants heard someone enter the ground floor of the building from her first-floor flat, on Saturday at approximately 10:00pm. Understanding that the shop was about to be burgled, the shopkeeper called the police.

Once on site, police officers arrested the man from Brussels. Although armed with a crowbar, he maintained that he had no intention of committing an offence, but said he was there to look for work. His explanation did not convince the policemen.

Well-known in police circles, the suspect was referred to the public prosecutor in Nivelles. A preliminary investigation and hearing took place and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
